Changelog

Volume backups

Persistent container volumes now have backups. They're on by default: a snapshot every 24 hours, kept for 7 days, in the customer's account and in the volume's region.

alien.ts
const db = new alien.Container("db")
  .code({ type: "image", image: "postgres:17" })
  .persistentStorage("500Gi", {
    mountPath: "/var/lib/postgresql/data",
    backups: { intervalHours: 4, retentionDays: 14 },
  })
  .build()

To restore one replica's volume:

alien deployments volumes customer-1/us-east-1
alien deployments restore-volume customer-1/us-east-1 --resource db --ordinal 0 --snapshot <snapshot-id>

Volume size can also differ per deployment. Set compute.containers.<id>.volumeSizeGib at initial setup or later. An existing volume can grow on AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure, and its filesystem grows with it. It can't shrink.
