Quotas
Two kinds of limits apply to subaccounts. Your cloud limits how many subaccounts you can have, and each new subaccount starts with low quotas for the services your stack uses. Alien watches both and shows them under Subaccounts.
How many subaccounts
| Cloud | Default limit | Note |
|---|---|---|
| AWS | 10 accounts per organization | A closed account still counts for 90 days. |
| Google Cloud | Projects per organization and per billing account | Set by Google for each organization. |
| Azure | 980 resource groups per subscription | Resource groups share the subscription's quotas. |
The connected cloud's page shows how many you use and how many are left. Alien refuses a new subaccount up front when the limit is reached, instead of failing halfway.
Alien can't raise this limit for you. Before you onboard many customers, ask your cloud provider:
- Choose Request more subaccounts on the connected cloud's page.
- Copy the Support case text. It explains the use: isolated environments for your customers, several deployments per account, accounts reused where possible.
- Open a support case with your provider, or send it to your AWS account manager, who can often speed it up.
Request it early. Providers review these by hand, and an increase can take days.
Quotas inside each subaccount
A new AWS account or Google Cloud project starts with low quotas: vCPUs, GPUs, IP addresses, and others. A stack that runs fine in your main account can fail in a fresh one.
Alien checks a deployment's needs against the subaccount's quotas before it starts. When a quota is too low, Alien requests the increase and the deployment shows Waiting for quota. It continues on its own when the provider approves.
Each subaccount lists its quota requests with their status:
- Submitted: sent to the provider.
- Case opened: the provider opened a support case and reviews it by hand.
- Partially approved: the provider granted less than requested. The page shows what's still needed.
- Not adjustable: the provider doesn't allow an increase for this quota. Choose another region or a smaller size.
When a request stalls, Quota request help gives the text for a support case with the exact quota, region, and value. A warm pool requests these quotas before you need the account, so new customers don't wait on them.
